Initially developed in the 1920’s after the harvesting of cedar, tallowood and gum trees, Muurabay has been, over the years, a dairy, an Angus Stud and small crops operation producing beans, peas, tomatoes, potatoes, chillies, garlic and corn.
In the past 13 years we have concentrated on beef production and currently conduct a very successful Square Meaters Stud as well as a steer backgrounding operation. Bulls and females from the Muurabay Square Meaters Stud have been sold to breeders as far north as Rockhampton and south to Victoria. Bulls bred on Muurabay have sired Sydney and Brisbane Royal Show champions and can now be found in more than 7 stud herds across the eastern states.
We also buy steer calves generally straight off their mothers, yard wean and educate them and then grow them out to on-sell to professional feedlot backgrounders on the New England Tablelands.
Muurabay comes complete with steel cattle yards, an undercover crush and separate loading race. Other equipment included in the sale price is a tractor, mulcher, fertilizer spreader and wick wiper.
Muurabay is an intensive but easily run operation, currently home to 4 stud Square Meaters cows and calves, 24 steers and one stud sire. The farming and grazing operations on Muurabay have met the criteria for primary production status each of the last 13 years which means all legitimate inputs have been tax deductible. All cattle are available at valuation.
